Captain Bob Green Meet Capt. Bob Green

Chautauqua is Bob’s home turf because he not only fishes here; his family has lived on the lake for generations. His knowledge of the underwater landscape and seasonal vegetation changes makes finding elusive smallmouth possible.

Smallmouth Bass (Micropterus dolomieu)

They prefer deeper, cooler, and clearer water than largemouth bass. Smallies have dark or olive brown coloring with red-orange eyes, a powerful broad tail, and excellent hearing and vision. Their instincts to kill their prey with a single blow make them one of the toughest freshwater fighters in North America.

Despite its beauty, the lake did Bob and Crew zero favors. An unexpected early snow the previous week and the vegetation turnover happening underwater meant the smallmouth were even harder to find than usual. Bob and Crew covered a lot of water on both sides of the bridge, even fishing through freezing rain, but their determination paid off.

Crew couldn’t leave Buffalo without visiting Anchor Bar, home of the chicken wing. Originally created in 1964 as a late night snack for the bartender’s friends, the fried wings covered in secret sauce were an instant hit and have been on the menu ever since. Never one to shy away from getting his hands dirty, Crew gave the wings two spicy thumbs up.
